INTERGALACTIC SOUL
DJ Spinna [ Papa/Shanachie ]
Spinna drops a starchasing longplayer of cosmic Hop'n'Soul for Papa on one side of the water and Shanachie on the other. Sweet melodies colour his songs nicely, but the whole of "Intergalactic Soul" is on one key driven space soul level, which makes for difficult listening at times. "Peace & Quiet" features Stephanie McKay, whose content vocals are laid over beautiful strings and shuffly beats. "Computer Love" is a cover of the Kraftwerk fave, with fattened beats, revocodered vocals andscratches. Smiley neo soul.

BETWEEN YESTERDAY AND TOMORROW
Art Bleek [ Loungin' ]
Art Bleek's debut album brings us flavoursome Neo Jazz with trad touches and electric flourishes, alongside cultured downtempo grooves. His compositions tend to drift along quite nicely, but occasionally don't engage the listener properly. "Phillie's Special Delight" is a flowery fluted number, where a fat sax and lively percussion also join in the fun. "Early Memory" should stick in the mind, due to its amazing violin work and flute thoughts. "Between Yesterday And Tomorrow" is an accomplished debut of exptremely musical compositions.

ELECTROLUSH
V/A - [ Om ]
OM jump on the electronic House bandwagon with their premier "Electrolush" compilation. 'Electro' has been the sound de jour for the trend chasing House massive for a while, but to be fair to Om, they've managed to pick up some good tunes. Disc one features Landshark's lustful "Dangerous" and Solid Groove's slack jawed yet pummelling "This Is Sick" which probably shouldn't count as 'Electro', but are good all the same. The second CD hits harder with numbers like ?me's ubiquitous "Rej" and Claude Von Stroke's pointed overhauling of Andy Caldwell's "Warrior". What's next? A Jazz House revival?

GRAND SLAM
Richard Dorfmeister Vs Madrid De Los Austrias [ G-Stone ]
Dorfmeister teams up with Pogo and Heinz of MDLA here, and the three of them deliver a crop of original tunes and remixes. The smooth electronic grooviness of D and MDLA's production work is their strong point, but on occasions the trio's work veers into bland territory. Run of mill percussion, groovin' bass work and primed strings make the noises on D & MDLA's Dub of Zero 7's "In The Waiting Line". "Schnitz" is a fine original production, where smile-inducing guitars carry the unsure keys and to the point beats through. Discoeysoulyfunkifiedjazzyvibedgrooviness!

TWO/THREE
Dabrye [ Ghostly ]
"Two/Three" is an LP of nicely warped Hop from Dabrye and various MCs. Space Hop backdrops and pointful samples rule, which isn't a bad thing, but Dabrye does have you occasionally yearning for something a little more organic. A heavin' bass, theatrical strings and incredulous synths meet behind Doom's sombre vocals on "Air". AG tells his tale on "My Life",backed up by keys of hope and weather beaten chords. Ghost Hop for the next generation!

AN ANNOUNCEMENT TO ANSWER
Quantic [ Tru Thoughts ]
Will 'Quantic' Holland returns with probably his finest LP to date. It only features nine tracks, but the album glows courtesy of funked out bites and hoppy numbers. Title track "An Announcement To Answer" sees bell shaped keys and beaming guitars put in their place by kickin' drums. "Politik Society" is a gorgeous Puerto Rican vibed ditty, where Noelle 'Rebirth' Scaggs lays her tuneful vocals over a refreshing musical backdrop. Quantic has grown as a producer over the years and this evidence suggests that Holland is still improving, despite having already reached lofty heights.
